Same Day Emergency Appointments
We do our best to see dental emergencies the same day you call. Here is how to give yourself the best chance of an appointment today, and what to do if we are closed.
How same-day booking works
West End Dental Centre keeps some flexibility in the daily schedule for urgent problems, and we do our best to see emergencies the same day. Same-day availability depends on how many patients need care that day and how urgent each situation is, so we cannot guarantee a specific time. Calling as early in the day as possible gives us the most options.
Call 780-944-2828 rather than booking online for an emergency. Online booking is designed for routine visits, and our team needs to speak with you to understand the urgency.
What happens when you call
A short phone conversation helps us decide how soon you should be seen and how to prepare for your visit:

Call early
Phone as soon as you notice the problem, ideally first thing in the morning, so there is more time in the day to fit you in.

Describe your symptoms
We will ask where the problem is, how much pain you have, whether there is swelling, bleeding or injury, and when it started.

Phone triage
Based on your answers, our team prioritizes your care. Time-sensitive problems, such as a knocked-out tooth or spreading swelling, are treated as the most urgent.

First-aid advice and an appointment time
We give you guidance on what to do before you arrive and, where possible, offer you a time that day. If we cannot see you today, we will discuss the next available option.
What to bring
Having a few things ready can help your visit go smoothly:
- A list of your current medications and any allergies
- Your dental insurance information, if you have coverage
- Any tooth or tooth fragments, kept moist in milk or saliva
- Photo ID, and a parent or guardian for patients under 18
- Any notes on when the problem started and what makes it better or worse
Please arrive a few minutes early if you are a new patient so we can complete your health history.
After hours
If the clinic is closed and your problem can wait, call and leave a message with your name, phone number and a short description of what is happening. We will follow up as soon as we are available.
Call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department right away if you have facial swelling that is affecting your breathing or swallowing, bleeding that does not stop with firm pressure, or an injury to the jaw or face from an accident. These can be signs of a serious problem that needs medical care first.
