Smile Makeovers
A smile makeover brings together two or more cosmetic and restorative treatments in one coordinated plan, shaped around your goals and your oral health.
What is a smile makeover?
There is no single "makeover" procedure. Instead, it is a plan that combines treatments to address several concerns at once, such as colour, shape, spacing, alignment and the gumline. Planning everything together helps each step support the next, so the finished result looks balanced rather than pieced together.
Your plan might include just two treatments or several. Some patients complete everything in a few months, while others prefer to phase treatment over a longer period to fit their schedule or budget.
Patients often consider a makeover when they have a mix of concerns, for example teeth that are both stained and slightly crowded, older fillings that no longer match, or a chipped front tooth alongside an uneven gumline. Looking at the whole smile together can help avoid fixing one concern only to make another stand out.
Treatments that may be part of your plan
- Teeth whitening to lighten staining and discolouration
- Porcelain veneers to change the shape, size or colour of front teeth
- Dental bonding to repair chips, close small gaps or reshape edges
- Invisalign clear aligners to straighten crowded or spaced teeth
- Gum contouring to even out an uneven or gummy gumline
- Replacing older dental work that is worn or no longer matches

How a smile makeover is planned
-
Consultation
You share what you would like to change. Photos of smiles you like can be a helpful starting point.
-
Health check first
Your dentist examines your teeth and gums and takes X-rays. Any decay or gum disease is usually treated before cosmetic work begins.
-
Building the plan
Your dentist recommends which treatments may help, in what order, and roughly how long each phase may take.
-
Treatment in phases
Treatments are completed in sequence, with check-ins along the way so the plan can be adjusted if needed.
-
Review and maintenance
Once complete, regular checkups and cleanings help your results last.
Why the order of treatment matters
Whitening only works on natural teeth. It does not change the colour of bonding, veneers or crowns, so whitening is usually done first and new restorations are then matched to your brighter shade.
Likewise, straightening teeth with aligners before placing veneers may allow a more conservative approach. Thoughtful sequencing is one of the main benefits of planning a makeover as a whole.
Realistic expectations
A smile makeover can make a noticeable difference to how your smile looks, but results depend on your starting point, your oral health and how your teeth respond to treatment. Your dentist will be clear about what each option can reasonably achieve and whether any treatment may not be suitable for you. Read more about our approach on the cosmetic dentistry page.
